Contact engineering using nanostructuring, low dimensional carbon nanomaterials, and molecular doping for improved efficiency in organic photovoltaic devices
abstract
Organic photovoltaics offer a number of potential advantages over inorganic materials for large area and thin film photovoltaics. The disordered nature of organic semiconductor materials, however, dramatically changes the parameter engineering required to improve performance through superior charge extraction efficiency.

We have shown three approaches to improving charge separation and extraction in organic semiconductor devices using nanoscale structural engineering; in particular this presentation will discuss:
1. The development of self-assembled and deliberately patterned
reticulated structures
2. Use of self-assembled donor/acceptor pairs for improved charge
separation and
3. The use of low density of state electrodes (such as graphene),
which permit contact doping and improve charge injection and extraction.
Several device and system examples will also be presented
