Ebro Basin: Neogene evolution of a foreland basin
abstract
The Ebro foreland Basin (Spain) formed during the Eocene-Miocene as a flexural response to the Pyrenean tectonic load giving rise to an asymmetrical basin with sedimentary thickness up to 6000m. The sedimentary record includes several major trangressive-regressive cycles in which marginal alluvial system interplayed with transitional and marine systems. The continental settlings were charaterized by spreadings and retreat of carbonate and evaporite systems, resulting from a unique interplay among tectonic, sedimentation and climate.
